Thanksgiving's my most favorite holiday because just the name literally means
-- Giving Thanks --
I love celebrating all things about it and there's one Thanksgiving I hosted that stands out the most.
It was 2012 and I had the turkey brining (yes, the Alton Brown method of putting your turkey in a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket filled with salt water) and sides prepping and I decided to do something new this go round besides focusing only on food.
In a moment of inspiration, I took some branches off my tree, grabbed some spray paint and sprayed them a beautiful metallic gold. Tree branches never looked so pretty and with a tall, skinny, glass vase I had at home, I stuck those branches in it with some rocks and voila! I had created a grand centerpiece for $6. I then took my papercutter and cut out cardstock squares for every single one of my guests, with their name on it, and hung those with ribbon off of the branches. I was so proud of my display right when you entered the party.
But, this isn't a note about how to make beautiful centerpieces. What happened from there is what made it the most memorable Thanksgiving...
When people came in, I let them know they could take off one person's card and write down why they were grateful for that person. Within moments, the branches were empty but those cards were full of writing. Everyone participated (even the uncles!) and were happy to share their thoughts about someone they cared about.
What's even better was how people reacted when they got their card back. People who aren't even into this stuff couldn't help but let smile sneak out of the corner of their lips. It's not often that we voice out loud what we're grateful for in others. And yet it makes people feel all mushy gushy and loved inside!
In this case, not only did they get to hear from others, they got to read it and take the gratitude home as a keepsake. (btw, the centerpiece was empty after that, lol!).
Soooooo...I wanted to share this idea with you and make it super easy for you to do.
Whether you are going to be the hostess with the mostess or the guest who's best, I created a Gratitude Keepsake for you to use. It's a free downloadable printable designed for people to write down what they're grateful for and folds into a nifty keepsake.
So here's what to do (super simple!)....print a bunch of these for Thanksgiving, put one person's name on each and have other people write down why they're grateful for that person. Then give the filled out keepsake to the person whose name is on it and everyone gets to take home the best party favor ever.
If you want to really make things intimate, have each person share one gratitude out loud that someone wrote about them. Trust me, you WILL feel a palpable love in the air when this happens. Gratitude when it's shared feels just as good when it's received.
And my last tip - do one just for yourself. A personal one to keep on your nightstand, your desk, or anywhere! The main thing is that you have it to remind you of all you're grateful for about yourself.
Gratitude is one of the secrets to happiness, abundance, and fulfillment. Making it a daily ritual to feel gratitude will transform your perspective and life.
I hope you and your loved ones enjoy this special gift of the Gratitude Keepsake.
From my heart to yours...
Hugs,
Shazia
