It started with a picture….
And ended with a soul mate.
This time last year was one that I’ll never forget. I had the opportunity to visit a friend in Trinidad and while working out of her house one day staring at her lush, exotic yard filled with huge tropical plants (ones I had only ever seen in the aisles of Home Depot), I started thinking about my life.
Single and wanting more, I wondered -- What's next for me? I felt incredibly open because for the first time in my life, I had nothing telling me what to do next.

No parents telling me what to do (ok, well they still do but at 30 something, I don't really listen!), no school track telling me the next steps to make life 'successful', and no longer a marriage defining my role in society. In passing through the fear of being single and without direction, I realized something powerful.
I could DECIDE what I wanted. On a deeper level, I realized I always had this decision capability but it had been easier to let others decide for me. Parents, school, husband, society. I wasn’t even able to make small decisions without consulting several friends first.
So I started wondering, what do I want? “It’s my time." So what? What does this random affirmation I keep saying to myself mean?
So I took another step. I created a vision board and put all my thoughts, wants and dreams in one space.
I stared at the pictures and felt excited, giddy even!, as I thought...really?! Could I really have all this in my life? Another part of me thought, no way….I’m crazy to think I’ll get this, this is too much. I mean seriously...who am I kidding? But there was this small yet growing part of me that felt content that I was desiring for myself.
Feeling like I was WORTH IT.
The exercise felt great just to do and imagine how amazing my life could be. And guess what? Deciding on things I wanted was actually fun once I got going. Who knew I could make decisions on my own? I surely didn't for a very long time.
There was one picture that stood out to me because it caught my eye but was a HUGE stretch. There was an engagement ring I stumbled on, unlike any I'd ever seen. It was this stunning vintage, flower-like ring in a rose gold finish that felt like someone created just for me. I didn’t love it, I adored it. Staring at it, feeling -- wow I'd love to wear that ring one day.
And guess what!
10 months later....
The ring was on my finger!!!
I had found my soul mate just 5 months after that vision exercise. And 5 months later he proposed -- at my secret garden!
Is this a true story? YES! This is actually the question I ask myself all the time because I’m still shocked by it. Can you pinch me please?
The year ended with making the dream a reality and we got married! Truth is - if you had told me last January that I would be married by the end of the year, I would have just laughed it off. Seriously.
Except that’s exactly what happened. I realized, there truly are no limits or end to the possibilities the Divine can provide.
So tell me this, what is one thing YOU want? Comment below and I double dare you to make it bigger! Eek! I can't wait to read it!!
Hugs,
Shazia
