Are you thinking, who me? I don’t have time to take a break! There just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything I need to do. I barely have time to breathe!
Well, I’m here to tell you, give yourself a break. Yes, seriously! Permission granted. Go curl up and read that book, sip that perfect cup of coffee, take a walk or better yet...get that nap in! When your family members ask what you’re doing, you can blame me for it. I’ll happily take it on because I want this for you.
The thing is, it’s important to just stop sometimes.

It clears our head and gives us much needed energy that can actually help us be more effective. When you’re constantly going, going, going without a break, your mind and body get so worn out that nothing is quite as good anymore. At an extreme, you will start shutting down - ever had a super short fuse where everyone and everything is just going wrong? A break can literally break the cycle and get us recharged again. Think about it - the energizer bunny would be pretty useless if the battery was low or even worse, dead. You need the juice to fill up your reserve to be the best for yourself AND those around you.
So tell me this, what would you do if you could take a break? Even just an extra 15 minutes? Next week I’ll show you how it’s possible.
What do I do? Well my biggest break of the year is here -- Happy Ramadan! This is the most spiritual time for Muslims around the world. There is no eating/drinking from sunrise to sunset. And it’s a time to just get away from the frantic-ness of life. To….slow….down….
I clear my calendar in Ramadan and take things super easy because, yeah….you get worn out when you don’t eat for 18 hours. However, I find another energy comes from the increased reflection and being present. Plus, I’m not running around in 10 different directions. I wouldn’t do this otherwise so I am very grateful for this mandatory break.
For now, you've been given notice -- Give yourself a break.
